Luigi Fontana

Luigi Fontana is a globally recognised physician scientist and a leader in nutrition, metabolism, and healthy longevity. His pioneering research on dietary restriction in humans has significantly advanced the understanding of age-related diseases and human ageing. Professor Fontana holds the Leonard P. Ullmann Chair of Translational Metabolic Health at the Charles Perkins Centre, where he also leads the Royal Prince Alfred Clinic and the Health for Life Research Programme. He is a Professor of Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Sydney and a Clinical Academic in Endocrinology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
He has published over 170 articles in prestigious journals, including Science, Cell, and the New England Journal of Medicine, with over 35,000 citations. Fontana has received numerous awards, including the 2011 Glenn Award for Research in Biological Mechanisms of Ageing and the 2021 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence from the University of Sydney. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Nutrition and Healthy Ageing and has been an invited speaker at top institutions globally. Additionally, Fontana is passionate about environmental health and advocates for a new healthcare model focused on prevention and sustainability.
